Making a game can be an extremely complex and time-consuming process. In order to achieve a high standard title with next-gen game play a wide range of expertise is needed. Within this blog, Stimula © aims to help you understand a wide vareity of job roles within the gaming industry and also how the many different types of organisations that make our gameplay possible function... We hope to give you an insight into the range of diverse skills needed to make a hit, from programmers to artists!

Designers

What should I be able to do?

•Work effectively with other members of the studio including the artists and programmers, being able to communicate your ideas fluently and effectively.
•Be able to effectively plan out and formulate your games concept and vision, and be able to direct a team to create this dilligently and to budget, whilst taking into account the limitations of your colleagues.
•Devise the main components of a game, aswell as it's fine details, including:
Setting, Structure, Rules, Characters, Objects, Interfaces, Vehicles, Weapons and Story.
When given defined core ingredients, and expand on them creatively.

What skills should I have?

•Good Team Work Skills, to include confidence of public speaking to communicate your ideas to this team.
•Logic, Patience, Technique, Artistic, Passion, Confidence, Diplomacy, Organised, Time Management Skills, Well under Pressure, Creative, Imaginative.
• Both Written and Verbal Communication Skills.

What qualifications should I have?

•Bachelors Degree in a relevant Art/Design Qualification.
•Extensive experience in the industry and detailed knowledge of how it works. (usually 5 years plus).
•An extensive porfolio including showing your capabilities.

What are my Roles and Responsibilities?

•Produce original and viable Game Designs, whilst taking into consideration your limitations, budget and time-scale. This way you will produce realistic, achievable goals.
•Determine the best way to achieve the desired visual outcome, considering different mediums, styles etc.
•Ensure your team and the rest of the studio understands your idea, and can formulate it accordingly so that it appeals to your specified market.
