What should I be able to do?
•“Plan, Analyse and Create visual solutions to communication problems.”
•You should be able to decide the most effective way of putting across a message in many different types of media for magazines, newspapers, journals, corporate documents, publications, games covers, posters and other documents whilst including aspects like:
colour, type, illustration, photography, animation, print, layout composition, juxtaposition.
• You must have a good understanding of composition and pay close attention to detail.
What skills should I have?
•Good understanding of graphics software like Photoshop.
•Logic, Patience, Technique, Artistic, Accuracy, Well under Pressure, good with computers.
What qualifications should I have?
•Bachelors Degree in Computer Science or an equivilent Degree in a Mulitmedia related course.
•Significant Programming, Designing, Mathematics, Commerce, Graphic Design experience.
•You may also want to consider business or psychology to help you communicate with your clients.
What are my Roles and Responsibilities?
•Consult with managers and clients about projects.
•Create sketches of layout ideas/concepts and transfer them to Computer Aided Designs dilligently.
What's my Work Environment?
•This may vary depending on what company you’re working for, you could be employed by a large firm, in which case you would generally work regular hours in a well-lighted and comfortable settings.
•On the other hand a small design consulting firms who Freelance generally work on a contract basis. You may need to adjust your work day frequently to suit your clients’ schedules and also work more dilligently and under a lot more pressure to meet deadlines, sometimes working in more congested environments.
•All designers will sometimes feel stressed as not all clients will like what they produce and deadlines may become shorter and more frequent.
